In Chess: Powered Up, there are two main types of powerups: stat powerups and ability powerups. Stat powerups change a piece's stats, while ability powerups generally give that piece an ability. Here are some examples of simple stat powerups:
The Health Crate gives the player three options in which to boost one of their piece's health stat, allowing them to survive more attacks from opposing pieces.
The Strength Crate also gives the player three options in which to boost one of their piece's stats, but for this crate, that stat is strength. A piece's strength directly correlates to how much damage its attacks do.
